When I got invited to go to Miraj Hamman Spa at Shangri-La Hotel in Toronto to try out their Hammam & Gommage treatment I was beyond excited!
My Hammam & Gommage Experience:
When I first entered the spa I was warmly welcomed by the ladies at the front desk who had me fill out basic forms informing them of any allergies or conditions I may have before starting my treatment. I was then escorted to the change room where I was given a personal locker containing a housecoat and comfortable rubber flip flops. Once I had finished undressing and had my robe on, I was taken to the Hamman & Gommage room which consisted of a walk in area and bathroom that lead into marble steam-like chambers. Before I entered the chambers I was advised to remove my robe (I was naked underneath so I was given disposable underwear) and put on a thin towel wrap. I was also given a cup of water because the steam can be very intense at first but once I was in there for a couple of minutes my body began to adjust. I decided to lay down on the marble bench where there was a towel for me to rest my head on. After soaking in the steam for 15 minutes the attendant returned and escorted me to a second steam room (which is less intense) and had me lay face down. She then rubbed cream all over the back of my body, followed by a scrub (it felt like a scrub mitt) which felt AMAZING. I then flipped over onto my back and she repeated the same process. Once the scrub was complete I stood up so I could be sprayed down with water to get all the access scrub off my body. After the wash down, I was able to put my robe back on and dry off. When the treatment was finished, I was lead into another beautiful, relaxing room where I was allowed to hangout, drink some chai-mint tea and snack on grapes and pastries. After I had finished relaxing, I returned to the change rooms which were stocked with everything I could possibly need (i.e. blow-dryer, towels, creams, hairspray, etc.).
Firstly, I was blown away by the staff at the Miraj Hammam Spa. They did a great job making me feel comfortable, pampered and relaxed. Secondly, the interior of the entire spa is beautiful. I could not get over the decorating and cleanliness of the lounge areas and change rooms - everything was so well put together, even down to the music! Now, when it comes to the actual treatment it was completely different then any other treatment I have ever had before. I honestly felt like I had a new layer of skin when I left. I also have very fair skin which can be sensitive so I was a little worried the scrub might be a little too hard but it was completely fine. The products used were great.
Would I recommend the Hammam & Gommage Treatment?
YES! I would definitely recommend this treatment especially, during the changing of the seasons (i.e. fall to winter, winter to spring etc.) or before a big event. It honestly made me feel much more confident about my body - probably because my skin felt brand new, not to mention soft and smooth!
Overall, my experience was nothing but positive and relaxing. Miraj Hammam Spa is definitely a "treat yourself" kind of place that is worth the time and money to attend! I hope my readers find this post helpful and hopefully it will convince you to try out the Hammam & Gommage experience!
